One of the coolest photography advancements that has come along in recent years is the ability to tour a place we’ve never been, using a 360° virtual tour. By pressing a directional button, we can now experience a location or building before investing any hard-earned cash on a vacation rental, concert ticket, or even a mountaintop where snow ski runs await our skis.
360° Photo Rendering is a tool businesses use for online marketing purposes, but that’s just one way the process can benefit employers. For example, a manufacturer can use a 360° rendering to train its employees by putting them into a virtual environment to learn about company’s processes before physically placing workers in the plant. Using this technique can familiarize workers with the layout and design of the manufacturer’s space, and can cut down on accidents or other mishaps that could put employees in danger.
Ringer Consulting Group’s in-house photographer Kendrick Washington recently provided 360° Photo Rendering to two clients located in South Georgia. He explained the process of capturing an end-to-end view in stages: First, he takes 3 phots from ceiling to floor (or sky to ground, for outdoor views) every 20 degrees of the area being shot, taking 54 photos in total for one area. Second, he moves the camera in every possible direction, such as down a hallway or into adjoining rooms, and repeats the 54-photo process again and again, until the desired area has been fully shot.
Other factors must also be addressed by a photography professional. Proper lighting is one such necessity; without consistent lighting, a 360° Photo Rendering can lack the quality a business wants to capture.
Once the photos have been taken, they are uploaded to a software program that renders every single shot into what ends up looking like a real-time walk-through video.
